The Never-Fading Love for Photography of a Hybrid Shooter
Meiwen Wang wants all her clients to feel the same thing, “I hope a client feels comfortable, adored, and I hope they know that I completely enjoy this moment I get to share with them and document!” When Meiwen set out to photograph the photo/video duo of 127, the Orgills, that didn’t change. In fact, while many photographers shy away from photographing other photographers, she welcomes it and confesses that she and the Orgills did “geek out together a little bit about photography stuff”.
Since Meiwen started shooting film in the middle of last year, her work bounces between digital and film but “film usually takes priority”. When asked why she chooses one over the other she states, “digital is great for low light and quick movements but most of the time I prefer film, because the colors and depth it gives is just the BEST and second to none. When I first started shooting in film it was frustrating to have a limited number or shots per roll – I was used to just taking a bunch in a row and picking out the better ones, but film has made me compose and shoot intentionally, and make better images.”
Picking up her first camera in college while studying fine arts, Meiwen brought it everywhere. That camera was attached to her, an extension just like an arm or a leg. Even though she confesses to being fickle with her interests (she has “tons of half started crafts and projects to prove it) but her interest in photography has never faded. As she says herself, “it’s not repetitive, it’s not boring, there’s no end to how you can create with photography.”
